ArtefActing

(2023) ARTEFACTING 2.0 is under re-conceptualization as a research practice

(2010-2017) ARTEFACTING 1.0 is a revitalization initiative that creates and curates public art projects as a vehicle to visualize culture and stimulate social cohesion & capital. Artefacting facilitates and creates inclusive cultural productions in communities worldwide. Participants and collaborators are brought together to construct a dialogue of progress and identify commonalities through a creative process that aims to build social capital and social cohesion; conditions that revitalize and regenerate. Out of this process come “Artefacts” (art, performances, photographs, film, exhibitions, etc.) that materialize and reinforce the stories, issues and cultures of a people and place. These “Artefacts” unify the creators and provide understanding to outside audiences. Ultimately our inclusive cultural productions aim to transform people into resources that can benefit themselves, their communities and their cities.

VISION
We believe people are the central asset and key resource to their own revitalization and regeneration. Revitalization and regeneration occur through activities that create value and cultivate the minds and souls of individuals. These are means to activating people as producers of their own culture.

Our focus-
+ Rethink – process of creating “Artefacts” that can give insight and catalyze
+ Revitalize – stimulate and catalyze individuals and communities
+ Regenerate – culture/people (cultivated minds and souls) and place (activated public spaces & art that creates identity, positivity and recognition)

WHAT WE DO
+ Revitalize communities and individuals through the creation/curating of inclusive cultural productions that reproduce interest and continuity
We Produce short & long-term projects and initiatives that
+ bring people together to learn from one another and about each other
+ improve participants technical skills & abilities
+ improve social skills and facilitate personal connections

Production often occurs through such mediums
+ murals
+ workshops (Rome, Naga etc.)
+ public art festivals
+ fine art exhibitions and installations (Queens Museum, etc.)
+ films and film screenings (Dharavi film screenings)
+ transformative land use (Nagaland)

OUR PROCESS
1) Lead. Facilitate. Create.
2) Connect. Cultivate. Transform
3) Generate social cohesion & social capital within team members and organizations
4) Inspire leadership and produce capacity for program continuity; empower individuals to act, change & create

HOW WE WORK
We utilize our ethnographic and multi-disciplinary capacities to detect and learn the cultures of a people and place before innovating strategic and inclusive artistic projects that activate public spaces and participants in ways that create opportunities for progress and continuity

+ We connect diverse people by bringing their skills, abilities and interests together to create an environment that facilitates change and a capacity to act on it
+ Inspire communities & identify leaders throughout the course of realizing cultural productions (such as a land use transformation, public art festival engagement) to allow an initiative to grow and multiply
+ Create collaboratives that integrate artists, non-artists, activists, and organizations into dynamic activist oriented social group
