The Mumbai Mirror published a piece on Artefacting Mumbai this weekend called Lessons From Dharavi. Excerpt below, and read the full article here..
… Fascinated Americans wanting to document a slice of Dharavi. Sounds like an average day in the life of the slum in the post-Slumdog Millionaire era. But Alex White Mazzarella and Casey Nolan beg not to be stereotyped. For one, they aren’t here to gawk at locals and return to sell their images and stories to the West.
On a mission called Artefacting Mumbai, the two have collaborated with several agencies here and back home in New York and Oregon to create a multimedia art exhibition. And more importantly, as they told us over cold coffee at a SoBo café last evening, they’re here to take lessons from the community and return as changed men.
Very good start, Casey and Alex. Keeping an open mind, and being flexible is important in life everywhere, but particularly in your situation.
Meanwhile, we your home-based audience, are glad to be part of the learning process.
